I saw “The Peony Lantern” dramatized in a Japanese horror serial when I was studying Japanese in San Diego. It was my first experience with Kaidan (怪談)–Japanese horror.
Zteve T. Evans posted this delightful telling of the tale yesterday on his mythology/folklore blog Under the Influence!, and I enjoyed it so much I’m reblogging it here for #FolkloreThursday. Enjoy!
